The goal of Teen Court is to provide first-time juvenile offenders the opportunity to have their cases heard by a jury of their peers, instead of juvenile court judge. Through the use of Restorative Justice practices Teens found "guilty" must adhere to Teen Jury recommendations. The case is then officially "dismissed" if the offending Teen completes the terms of probation. An additional goal of Teen Court is to provide an arena for our students to experience the juvenile justice system and network with Superior Court Judges, Court Interpreters, Probation Officers and Attorneys.
Our Teen Court is presided by our two volunteer Los Angeles County Superior Court Judges, both proud Roosevelt H.S. alumni:
Hon. Lucy Armendariz, UCLA, UC Hastings School of Law
Hon. Gregorio Roman, Yale University, UCLA School of Law
Roosevelt High School Law & Public Service Magnet
